Finally, I had the time to test drive VMware Server 2.0 for Linux with great results, except that after installing and un-installing VMware Server a couple of times I was confronted with an error that prevented me from installing again. The problem was that some files from the previous installation were not completely erased preventing me from installing again. Remember you need root!.
luis@jackal:~/Download/vmware-server-distrib$ sudo ./vmware-install.pl
A previous installation of VMware Server has been detected.
The previous installation was made by the tar installer (version 4).
Keeping the tar4 installer database format.
Unable to find the answer BINDIR in the installer database
(/etc/vmware/locations). You may want to re-install VMware Server.
Execution aborted.
See, the solution was to remove the VMware directory located at /etc.
sudo rm -Rf /etc/vmware
Then continue with the installation as usual.
